APPLICATION & REVIEW PROCESS REGISTRY UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS IN DISABILITY
& |
Preamble:The Registry of Undergraduate Programs in Rehabilitation & Disability Studies is a list of programs that are consistent with the guidelines established by the Council on Rehabilitation Education's (CORE) Committee on Undergraduate Education (CUE). Recognition through acceptance to the Registry does not constitute accreditation of an undergraduate program in rehabilitation studies or disability and rehabilitation studies. The CUE Registry process has been designed to avoid the appearance of a direct parallel to an accreditation process, specifically the accreditation carried out by CORE for the accreditation of rehabilitation counseling programs.
Application Process:
1. Interested parties can obtain application materials through the CUE Website and from CUE administrative headquarters.
2. Applicants will complete all application forms and submit the original and three copies to the CUE office. Applicants will submit the $300 application fee to the CORE office.
3. CORE will deposit the application fee into the CUE account and provide a receipt of payment to the applicant with a letter acknowledging receipt of application materials.
4. The CUE chair will record receipt of the application and forward a copy to the chair of the CUE Implementation Subcommittee (ISC).
5. The ISC chair will screen the application for appropriateness and completeness.
6. The CUE chair and the ISC chair will identify two reviewers for each application. Reviewers will be subject to conflict of interest policies contained in CORE=s Site Reviewer Handbook (December, 1997). Alternate reviewers will replace any reviewers determined to have a conflict of interest with an applicant program.
7. Using the Disability and Rehabilitation Studies Self-Study forms, the two reviewers will independently review the application assigned to them. Each reviewer will determine the applicant to either be AIn Compliance@ or ANot in Compliance@ with the CUE Standards. As appropriate, reviewers will provide specific recommendations regarding the program and its curriculum.
8. In cases involving disagreement between the two reviewers, the application will be assigned to a third reviewer to break the tie.
9. Reviewers will return the application and review materials with their recommendations to the ISC chair within 30 days of their receipt of the materials. The ISC chair will notify the CUE chair of the results of the review. The ISC chair will also synthesize and finalize program recommendations made by the reviewers and forward them to the CUE chair for dissemination to the applicant.
10. The chair of the CUE will submit the names of programs determined to eligible for the Registry to the Chair of CORE and recommend their approval by CORE.
11. The Chair of CORE will notify officials at the universities of the programs accepted for the Registry. .
12. A letter of notification along with a Registry Certificate will be sent to the program coordinator by the chair of CUE.
13. All materials submitted by reviewers will be submitted to the CORE office by the chair of the ISC.
14. Programs will be admitted to the Registry for a three year period. Charges for regular admission to the Registry will be the $300 application fee plus an annual maintenance fee of $100 per year. Programs will be required to reapply after three years to maintain their status in the Registry.
15. Because of CUE=s priority for program development and inclusion, any program that is not approved for the Registry may request consultation and support from CUE for program development. Fees for consultation will be negotiated.
16. In cases involving a CUE decision to deny admission to the Registry, the applicant may appeal. Appeals will be reviewed/processed by the Appeals Committee as specified in the CORE By-Laws Procedures.
